Powerless
If you are reading this, you probably have power. Before I left home all the lights went out. Checked next door and they lost power too. Asked the folks a few houses down, no power. The next block, no power. I debated sticking around the house, but realizing I can't do squat, I went on to work.
There is no power along 9th Street from the Convention Center to the Spy Museum. The traffic lights were out. Looking west on New York and Mass Aves, it appears the lights were out there too.

Oh and Happy Friday 13th.

If the Pepco Outtage Map is anything to go by, my milk and meat should be fine.

Several of the news stations are reporting that power is out in about a 30 block area from U to H and from 7th to 15th or so. Apparently at least one power substation failed, although I've seen reference to the station in Chinatown and the station at 10th and L/Mass Ave. No estimates on when poewr might come back on.
Power was out on 5th street, but oddly not two blocks over on Marion. NPR was referencing power out on Rhode Island and Florida Ave. corridors.
Shaw/Howard metro was all dark and creepy with minimal lights and no machines or turn-styles on. The poor metro worker in the booth looked defeated with two phones going - one in each ear. Trains on the green line were running seemingly on-time.
Power was out on our street too, but now I am at work on 17th, around the corner from the White House and we have power. Much of downtown is without power
